National Engineering and Geoscience Month

National Engineering & Geoscience Month (NEGM) is an annual opportunity to highlight not just engineering and geoscience, but science, math and technology. This initiative was initiated by Engineers Canada as a means of raising awareness of the important role engineering plays in the lives of Canadians, NEGM celebrates engineering and geoscience achievements and highlights the various academic and career opportunities available to Canadians.

Along with other Canadian provincial and territorial associations, APEGA hosts events and activities for elementary, junior and senior high school students to discover the exciting worlds of science and math. The University of Calgary Engineers Without Borders Chapter will be providing a mix of hands-on activities such as an inter-University design competition between the University of Calgary and University of Alberta as well as, panel discussions, guest lectures and networking sessions to raise the profile of its Professional Members and highlight their accomplishments through an environment of sharing and learning. The National Engineering & Geoscience Month is filled with opportunities to share math and science among our nation’s youth and general public.

Connection 360: Networking & Panel Discussion

The Women’s Advancement Office at the Schulich School of Engineering and the EWB University of Calgary Chapter will be hosting the Third Annual Connection 360 Reception for Women in Engineering on Tuesday, March 12th at the Bianca Room in MacEwan Hall at the University of Calgary.

This event will provide female undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and alumni with the opportunity to network and share experiences within an open and though-provoking environment focused. The evening’s theme will be Collaboration and Inspiration. The theme’s objective is to empower young women in the life’s decisions at school and in the work place. Life has many challenges; however, there is always something to be learnt from experiences of others. By inviting women at various stages in their career, we hope that this event will give insight and guidance into what we as young women can expect in the future. We are hoping that the takeaways from this evening will provide Women in Engineering with the following; how to recognize individual leadership styles, successful negotiation tactics, and tools to achieve balance and cultivate personal fulfillment.

Global Engineering Guest Lecture

EWB University of Calgary Chapter will be hosting Leah Lawrence, President of APEGA as the Keynote Speaker for the Global Engineering Speaker Series for the 2012/2013 Academic Year. She will be facilitating a guest lecture that aims to engage the student body on the changing role of engineers in society and the need for engineers to stand up and be leaders in our local and international communities. Additionally, she will be providing insight into how engineers can collaborate to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing local and global communities.
